MAFFIA feat. DJ ROCCA
“MADE IN ITALY”
(Pivotal)
If you’re a fan of jazz funk drum & bass but, like some, have yet to be convinced by Pivotal’s releases to date, then I urge you to check this out. This is the best yet with the Peshay remix being of supreme quality. Maffia is a club in Italy at which the flute playing DJ Rocc@ is resident, and that instrument really makes an impact on this cut. The exquisite, summery vibe of the original, downtempo track has been beautifully treated by Peshay on his uplifting dancefloor remix and, quite honestly, if you like drum & bass – you cannot afford to miss this. “21ST CENTURY GROOVES”
Pivotal
Peshay and Phill Wells haven’t waited long before unveiling the first Pivotal album and, while the previous singles have all been paving the way for this release. I don’t know whether they have prepared people enough for the sheer eclecticism of this album. That however, is what makes this LP so good and while drum & bass is featured through cuts from Flytronix. Peshay, new signing Acrylic and remixes from the likes of Ray Keith, this is jazz funk album more than anything. The laid back splendour of recent single “Made in Italy” settles down nicely alongside the breezy house vibes of Dark Star’s “First Flight” , while Justice and Neil Trix also weigh in with a deep and tuff. Detroit style house groove. “21st Century Grooves” is a highly diverse album that should be sampled by all, but may only find favour with the more open minds. RA
